It’s always a pleasure photographing any event for the Military whether that’s the army, navy or RAF, they all know how to have a rather good party! So it was an honour dropping by to document the royal military academy at Sandhurst for their annual christmas party as their event photographer.
It was one of those wet, dark nights, raining and a layer of fog in the air. As always you get the nod and directions from the main gate of where to go. And of course I got lost or rather they sent me to the wrong car park. But hurrah, I am forever grateful for the band who rescued me mid carrying a box of photobooth props in the rain. Thanks band!
What a cracking party theme of The Alps and anything to do with skiing. We had some fabulous sights of goggles, mountain climbers to christmas lights wrapped dresses!
I jumped right in with the drinks receptions taking candid photos of guests on arrival. Always the best part of the evening seeing everyone dressed up black tie mixed in with the fancy dress theme. I shot a mixture of direct to camera group shots and more reportage black and white images to give a feel of the buzz and ambience. I do like to get in nice and close as you will see. This sometimes creates a fun reaction or those who do well to ignore the face that a camera is lurking behind their shoulder. All done in good spirits and non obtrusive way. I think after all my years of photographing events I think I achieve a nice balance of must get group shots to telling the story of the evening.
